Iditarod Musher Banquet Centerpieces

Heading 4

My "Lead Dog" Team was excited to learn that they were a winning school in the Iditarod Musher Banquet Centerpiece Contest. They, along with their 5th grade classmates, got busy building "Husky Hotels" and "Sweet Sleds" for our centerpiece entries. I can't wait to see these on the the tables at the musher banquet on February 28th!

"Give a Husky a Home" Fundraiser FUN!

The Lead Dogs also organized a fundraiser for our favorite musher, Charley Bejna. Through this "Give a Husky a Home" fundraiser, students at Puckett's Mill Elementary School were able to purchase a small or large husky with or without a "Team Charley" personalized bandana. Students created posters, wrote and performed commercials skits, and sorted, filled orders, and delivered huskies to participants when the litters arrived. Students were thrilled to get these cute huskies and give them "fur"ever home!  With the proceeds made through the sale of the huskies, we will support several of Charley's dogs running in this year's Iditarod. The lead dogs designed a survey for students to vote on the pups they would most like to sponsor. The final picture in the gallery is of bandanas that were made for Charley's Iditarod team to wear at the ceremonial start of the race in Anchorage, AK on Saturday, March 2nd! A special thank you to my sister-in-law, Gaye Benson, for sewing the bandanas and to our music teacher, Mallory Parker, for designing and pressing the vinyl lettering on the bandanas! We think they turned out GREAT! Your help was "mush" appreciated.
